How the Instagram Reels and video downloader works
Every public post on Instagram is stored as a file on Meta's servers. When you paste a link, SaveMyReel asks Instagram for the public version of that post, finds the highest quality file, and hands it to your browser as a download. Nothing is re-encoded, so when you download Instagram videos here the quality matches what you watched.
That also explains the limits. Private accounts only share files with approved followers, so they can't be downloaded. If a creator deletes a post, the file is gone too. And if Instagram muted a Reel's music for copyright reasons, the download has no sound either.
